TOSCA is an organization of Tartan owners in Southern California devoted to fellowship, group support, and the pursuit of sailing. TOSCA endeavors to provide a network of area Tartan owners who might assist one another in various aspects of boat ownership. In Memorium - Doug Mills
Doug Mills passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 just short of his 72nd birthday. As many of you know, Doug has battled a rare strain of Leukemia for the past years. Recently it became more serious, enough to warrant a heroic bone marrow transplant and other highly aggressive anti-cancer treatment. Apparently the treatment in combination with the cancer got the best of his heart and led to his death.
We in TOSCA are faced with a great loss. Per Bill Solberg, "I have a hard time imagining TOSCA without Doug. The thing that struck me so strongly was Doug's astonishing pluck through all his recent ups and downs. This is what we have experienced with Doug all along."
Doug, as you also know, was the originator of TOSCA and had a great love for Tartans and Tartan owners. He simply thrived on getting everyone thinking Tartan and having a good time in the bargain. We should never forget his tireless efforts on our behalf. Sandy has vowed to continue on in boating; we welcome her to do so.
Sandy and family have scheduled a memorial celebration of life on July 1, at 1400 hours. All are invited to attend. The event is informal, so please bring your good stories and your good wishes to Sandy and family.
TOSCA Winter Dinner and San Diego Boat Show
The TOSCA Winter dinner meeting, held on Saturday, 28 January 2012 was a lively success. Holding down the back room at Fiddler's Green Restaurant on Shelter Island were well-known crews from our TOSCA boats including the Jonvilles, Browns, Ryans, McLennans, Thomas, Hayems and Solbergs. New to the scene were Fraser and Debbie Fisher. On hand for the factory were owners Stephen and Stephanie Malbasa. We had the opportunity to meet Don and Debra Aitken, originally hailing from Canada. Don is associated with the new Tartan dealership in San Diego (Suncoast Yachts).
